My Girl!

Here's Bethany! At 1:36 p.m. on April 6th, we received our Bethany Rachael into our arms. We're going to call her Rachael. (For those who don't know about the naming convention and are confused as to why we have chosen not to call her by her first name, I'll write more on that in another post.) I figure the name Rachael will stick until she loses her mind when she's 12 or 13 and decides that Bethany sounds much more mature than Rachael. Whatever.

What a blessing she is! I'd truly been hoping for another boy all this time, but God knew I really needed a girl. She's absolutely wonderful...all 9+ pounds of her. She actually weighed an ounce short of 9 pounds when she was born, but since they waited over an hour to weigh her, I just tell people that she weighed nine pounds. Makes me sound like more of a woman. And she was 21-1/4 inches long. But after about the first six inches, it was all gravy. (The epidural wore off right at transition, so I have officially declared myself SUPERWOMAN!)

Isn't she beautiful?

Ethan loves her so much in a very sweet and near-suffocation kind of way. Seth is warming up to her and will touch her, but the kisses are still very few and far between. I'm trying not to to worry about that, because Seth's kisses are few and far between with everyone. One day soon, I suspect he'll get over the fact that she's not a new puppy. He very much would rather have that in his life right now than a new sister.

Isn't she just beautiful?

Daddy likes her pretty well, too. You should have seen him showing her off on her first trip to church (Good Friday). We have some learning to do with regards to raising a girl instead of a boy, but I'm sure that between us, we won't mess it up too badly.

Isn't she simply adorable?

I have decided that she's a keeper and that I need a new wardrobe. Nothing fits. But Rachael has enough pink and purple to last at least nine months!

And here's a simply beautiful P.S. The 'indicative' sonongram picture that I had given to my step-dad and mom.....After much investigation and deliberation, they decided that it was a boy. They were even more surprised than I was that she turned out to be a SHE!
